Villa Tinto Winery situated on Krondorf Road, Tanunda offers both wine and food lovers an alternative to the Germanic influence in the Barossa Valley. Villa Tinto winemaker, Albert Di Palma, has successfully combined the vigneron background of his mother’s family that originated in Rioja, Spain and then migrated to Mendoza, Argentina with the reputation of the Barossa Valley. As a result, three of the world’s most famous wine regions have been combined to produce top quality, full bodied Mediterranean style reds, whilst retaining traditional European winemaking techniques.
In 1986 the Di Palma family moved to the Barossa Valley with no intention of starting a small winery. However Albert’s passion for winemaking could not be contained. Before long a small vineyard was planted and several years later the foundations of Villa Tinto Winery were laid with the creation of Albert’s first Cabernet Sauvignon in 1991. Ten years later in 2001, Villa Tinto celebrated its first commercial release, being the 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon. They have now expanded their selection of wines to include Shiraz, Cabernet/Shiraz, Cabernet/Semillon/Shiraz( the well known Mercedes Blend) and of course Cabernet Sauvignon.
All the hand crafted wines are made from vines which have thrived on the famous Biscay soil of the Barossa Valley. Using traditional European methods the process of crushing, fermentation and pressing takes place on the property. After completing a natural malo fermentation, the wines are matured in a mixture of American and French oak for a minimum of 18 months.
Recently Villa Tinto Winery has commenced small group-sized Argentine asado lunches for clients during the autumn and spring. Traditional Argentine meats are prepared and slowly cooked over hot coals, complimenting the wonderful robust reds of Villa Tinto Winery.
